Property Description:

This property defines what happens to content that overflows the element's box. The reason fo this occurring may vary: The width and/or height properties of the element may have been set to less of what the content requires to be displayed fully, one or more of the margins may have been set to a negative value, or positioning may have forced the rendering block to be constrained in size (there are, in fact, additional reasons). Here is what the values mean:

visible (default) - The content will appear outside of the box, as if to be rendered outside of it. Depending on the situation, this may appear normal in the flow of the document, or it may display over other elements.
hidden - The content will not be seen outside the rendering box. This is directly related to the clip property.
scroll - If the content exceeds the boundries of the box, scrollbars will appear as needed (horizontal, vertical, or both), to allow the content to be accessed by scrolling within the box. If the content should be printed, this value should act like the visible value, but this is browser-dependant.
auto - Within a browser, this value is the same as the scroll value. However, it is media-dependant and so if the content is printed, this value will act as the visible value.

The position property is directly related to this property. As well, the Box Model is relevant to understanding how the content area is treated.
